Rare pair of stunning Ebony 19th century colonial klismos side chairs with new traditional cane seating.
A classic design developed by the Greeks in the 5th century BC, gaining popularity throughout the 4th century, the Klismos chair has four curving splayed legs and curved back rail with a narrow concave back rest. The design was resurrected in the English Regency period. The uprights of the chair and the rear legs are carved from single pieces of wood forming graceful curves. These stunning chairs are carved out of very heavy Ebony wood in the 19th century, with a new traditional cane seating.
